7 Reasons Why You Should Never Date a Salesperson
Dating can be tough in this day and age. Online apps like Tinder and Bumble can be both a blessing and a curse, as thousands of potential dates are just one swipe away. But despite this, finding a great date can still prove elusive for most. If you’ve been single at any point in the last five years, you’ll probably understand.
And if you’re in the dating world, there’s one group of people you should definitely stay away from: salespeople. There are millions of salespeople across the world, so chances are pretty good that you’ll come across one sooner or later.
Here are seven reasons why you should never date a salesperson:
1. You don’t want to be pursued
If you prefer someone who isn’t willing to put in any effort at all, then you should definitely not date a salesperson. Salespeople are used to going after what they want, and will show you that they’re interested in you instead of playing games. (And the best salespeople use an AI-Powered CRM, like Spiro to help keep them in touch with all their prospects in an efficient and effective manner.) On the flip side, however, salespeople chase customers around all day, so if you’re the kind of person that likes to play games, they’re unlikely to put up with it for long.
2. You prefer to be ignored
Salespeople are professional listeners. They’re taught to listen in order to understand a person’s needs and motivations, and to come up with a custom-tailored solution. So if you prefer to date people who don’t listen to you and are always more concerned with what they want to say, then you definitely should never date a salesperson.
3. Job security is a turn-off
Competent salespeople can find work in any market, since nearly every company and industry has a sales force. So if the security of always being able to make a living isn’t interesting or important to you, then you should never date a salesperson. A decent salesperson can move to any part of the country and be employed in a matter of weeks, if not days.
4. You prefer thin skinned people
Salespeople develop alligator skin after a while. The constant rejection and pressure associated with sales necessitates really thick skin, which usually becomes a lifelong trait. So if you prefer overly sensitive people instead of gritty, thick-skinned ones, then you should absolutely stay away from salespeople.
5. You hate money
Some people don’t like money, and that’s ok. But if you don’t want to date somebody who is likely to have a high income, then you should stay as far away from salespeople as possible. In most companies, salespeople are some of the highest-compensated employees short of the executive team.
6. You prefer being bored
Salespeople may be a lot of things, but boring usually isn’t one of them. If you want to date someone who doesn’t have much to say and will put your feet to sleep, never date a salesperson. They’re usually some of the most colorful personalities out there.
7. Your birthday is Dec 31
If your birthday falls at the end of December, or the end of any quarter for that matter, you might want to think twice before dating a salesperson. End of quarter and end of year sales goals mean that the salesperson you’re dating will almost definitely be working, so going out for a nice dinner or some other fun celebration might not happen. On the other hand, you could just hold off and celebrate it after the first of the following month.
