8 Things Successful Salespeople Do Before Breakfast
Highly successful salespeople are extremely good planners. They have a sales process they follow that strategically moves a prospect along the sales cycle. They plan out their leads, calls, and meetings to help meet their sales goals.
They probably even have implemented a system to deal with email, use technology to help schedule their meetings, and take advantage of an AI-Powered CRM, like Spiro, to keep them on top of all their deals.
Talking with a few of these top tier sales machines, I’ve realized they all plan their before, and after, work time carefully as well. Here are 8 things they suggest we all do before breakfast:
1. Hit the Gym
Sales is a stressful job, and exercising is an excellent way to decrease your stress. Exercise keeps you healthy, gives you energy, and decreases stress, all of which will help you be more successful at work. Get it out of the way in the morning and you’ll reap the benefits all day long.
2. Visualize Your Day
Successful salespeople usually don’t come into the office and wing it, they have a process for what they do each day. But don’t waste your whole morning planning your day before you get to the office – simply visualizing yourself being productive can put you in the right mindset. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts.
3. Recite a Motivational Quote
If you start your day in a positive, motivated way, then the little things, like getting rejected by yet another prospect, won’t get you down. Read a motivational quote to start your day off on the right foot. One of my favorite’s is, “The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.” – Ayn Rand
Want to increase your sales success before you even drink your coffee?
4. Drink Some Coffee
The health benefits of caffeine are impressive – it boosts memory, decreases muscle pain, and obviously helps with alertness and stamina. Start your day off with a caffeinated beverage. That cup of joe may be just the extra jolt you need to attack the day and close those deals!
5. Kiss Your Kids/Pets/Spouse/Pillow
Did you know that kissing makes you smarter? According to Scientific America, puckering up to a loved one activates almost half of your cranial nerves. Successful salespeople can get those brains in gear with an early morning kiss.
6. Read Some Fiction
When you read fiction, you become connected with the characters in the books and develop a sense of empathy. The best salespeople can see the sale through the eyes of their customer – empathy at work. Pick up a book and take 10 minutes before breakfast to build those empathetic qualities.
7. Carefully Select Your Outfit
Appearance is a big part of the sales game. If you walk into a room self-assured and have a firm handshake, people are going to listen to you and believe in what you have to say. The interesting part of all this is that acting and looking powerful will actually make you feel powerful. So take a few extra minutes in the morning to pick out a suit that makes you feel like a million bucks.
8. Laugh
Laughter has similar positive effects on our mental state as a good jog does. It increases oxygen to the brain, making us feel happier, more alive, and actually helps with brain cell growth. Find a way to laugh before breakfast – read the funnies, watch a YouTube clip, or just laugh at yourself!
