The 10 Things Salespeople Do at Work (Besides Their Job)
Working in sales involves a lot of prospecting, communicating, negotiating, and follow-up. While a lot of the work is repetitive, salespeople also deal with so many different people that no two days are ever the same. And as they get closer to the end of their month (or quarter), things start to get even crazier around the office as everyone scrambles to get deals closed. (Which can be made easier by using Spiro’s sales automation CRM.)
But, believe it or not, salespeople do a lot of other things at work besides prospect and close deals. In fact, no matter what your company is selling, there’s a great chance that almost every salesperson does at least a few of the following things on a regular basis. Here are ten things salespeople do at work, besides their job:
1. Make fun of their sales manager behind their back
Everyone does it, and that’s ok (as long as the sales manager doesn’t find out)…
2. Consume a shocking amount of caffeeine
Coffee, energy drinks, soda, tea, sometimes all at once.
3. Calculate their future commission check
You shouldn’t count your chickens before they hatch, but it’s sooo tempting.
4. Recite quotes from Glengarry Glen Ross
It’s the quintessential sales classic. “Put that coffee down!”
5. Make jokes about how bad the leads are
If salespeople didn’t make fun of the leads, then they wouldn’t really be salespeople.
6. Order lunch and then get a phone call the minute they go to take their first bite
It’s inevitable. If you’re waiting for a phone call, sit down and try to eat.
7. Complain about the comp plan
The changes to the comp plan are going to help you make more money! Right? Right?….
8. Play pranks on their coworkers
If you can’t mess with your fellow salespeople while they’re trying to make a living, who can you mess with?
9. Go to the vending machine and buy snacks that they don’t really even want
Better than nothing.
10. Read sales articles on the Spiro Blog
Well, you are here, aren’t you?
