A Day in the Life of a Salesperson as Told by Larry David

People who’ve never worked in sales have a hard time understanding what a typical day looks like. You may think it’s just making phone calls and answering emails, but there’s a lot more to it than that.

In an effort to help everyone understand what it’s really like, we’ve enlisted our favorite curmudgeon, Larry David (from Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm), to better explain. Here’s what your day in the life of a salesperson would really look like:

1. Wake up and experience a few moments of calm before remembering that you have an incredibly complicated deal that will require most of your day to fix

2. Suck down an entire cup of coffee, then wait for a semblance of increased energy before considering whether or not to order another one

3. Attempt to decipher the confusing string of emails and voicemails you have waiting for you

4. Try to ignore your coworker who is distracting you but eventually give in and waste a half hour talking about nonsense

5. Consider eating the homemade lunch you made but order takeout instead

6. Give the nervous new sales rep some advice

8. Decide whether to make follow-up calls or spend the afternoon prospecting

9. Field a call from a prospect who wants to cancel and try to convince them to keep working with you

10. Go home and try to unwind, but instead spend the rest of the night thinking about your deals and how you plan to do better tomorrow
