[VIDEO EXCLUSIVE] Taylor Swift Wears A Unicorn Onesie And Talks Sales With Us

All footage shot with an Apple Watch.

The Sales Interview Of The Year

Well, it finally happened. After a brief but embarrassing mix up, we finally got an interview with THE Taylor Swift. After featuring Taylor in blogs about music and her sales savvy, her team finally agreed that it was in the best interest of both parties for us to sit down and have a heart to heart.

With topics ranging from sales effectiveness to unicorn cosplay and some pretty strong opinions on meeting confirmation, I think we can all agree that our meeting was a wild roller coaster of emotions.

You can stream the video above and find the full transcript below.

Spiro Interview With Taylor Swift

Justin: So we’re really lucky to have a special guest here today, that we totally 100% meant to have. Here to talk about sales best practices is Taylor Swift. Thank you Taylor.

TS: Hi, thank you!

Justin: So before we start I’ve just got to get this off my chest, I am such a huge fan.

TS: Thank you so much for being so welcoming and always having me over, I really appreciate it!

Justin: So Taylor, I think we all know you’re not just another musician, you’re a also a really really savvy sales person. You took your songs off of Spotify which was pretty controversial at the time. But you still somehow crushed your quota for your latest album. Can you elaborate on that process a little bit?

TS: I’ve been very optimistic and enthusiastic about the state of the music industry and thankfully so have my fans. They proved that they are ready and willing to invest in music and pay their hard earned money to buy music and I think it made an incredible statement in this time in music.

Justin: Now that’s really interesting. So you weren’t really concerned at all about your sales dropping?

TS: No, no.

Justin: I feel like there are so many factors involved here. There’s the timing of the album release which is really important. You have to keep the customer budget in mind and most of your customers are in fact teenage girls (and me). By the way, would you mind putting on this unicorn costume?

TS: There are ways to sell music in this climate and I think that I’ve always been really optimistic about that and so going up this sales week I was like man, this is the deciding factor. Like, we’re either going to see if music is in a worse state or better state.

Justin: Alright, alright, fair enough. But how about customer/product fit? Your last few albums have definitely skewed more country. 1989 definitely ventures more into the pop world. Was customer product fit ever a concern of yours as you were releasing it? Oh, and go ahead and take the unicorn thing off too.

TS: I… am not worried about that. I’m really in touch with my fans and I know what they like.

Justin: Well we’ve only got time for one more question and I think everyone here is dying to know – do you think you should be confirming all of your sales meetings?

TS: Yes.

Justin: Well there you have it. Thank you so much for joining us Taylor, we look forward to hearing more of your great sales advice in the future and Happy April 1st everybody!
